M'diq has become one of Morocco's most popular scuba diving destinations. Here is everything you need to know before diving in M'diq.

Why Dive in M'diq?

Scuba diving in M'diq, Moroccan Mediterranean
Guided dive in M'diq — 15–20 m visibility in high season

The coast between M'diq and Marina Smir offers remarkable diving conditions for the Mediterranean:

  • Visibility: 10 to 20 metres in high season (July-October)
  • Water temperature: 22 to 26 °C from July to October, 16-18 °C in winter
  • Varied sites: Posidonia seagrass meadows, coastal rocks, sandy bottoms, wrecks
  • Diverse marine life: groupers, moray eels, octopuses, cuttlefish, seahorses, barracudas
  • Accessibility: quick boat trips, with sites 5–15 minutes from the port

Tamuda Bay, between M'diq and Fnideq, forms a semi-sheltered area that keeps dives accessible even in moderate wind — a significant advantage over the more exposed sites on Morocco's Atlantic coast.

  2. Shallow-water training (15–20 min): getting to grips with the equipment in an area 1 to 2 metres deep.
  3. Sea dive (30–40 min): boat trip to the sites, exploring down to 5–8 metres with the instructor by your side.

Practical Tips Before Diving in M'diq

  • Book in advance in July-August: places go quickly
  • Stay hydrated: diving dehydrates you, so drink plenty before and after
  • Avoid alcohol the night before a dive
  • Do not dive if you have a cold, sinusitis or any ENT problem
  • Respect marine life: do not touch the coral, do not collect anything, do not feed the fish
  • Wait 24 hours after your last dive before flying
