M'diq: Water sports, diving, and beaches on the Moroccan Mediterranean coast
Nestled on Morocco’s Mediterranean coast, M’diq boasts an exceptional natural setting: a Blue Flag-certified beach stretching for several kilometers, crystal-clear waters ideal for scuba diving, and a modern marina — Marina Smir — which accommodates yachts, rental boats, and jet skis. This is where most of northern Morocco’s water sports activities are concentrated.
Scuba diving is M'diq's flagship activity. Several CMAS-certified centers offer introductory courses starting at 500 MAD, Level 1 and Level 2 training, as well as guided dives to explore the Mediterranean seabed: Posidonia seagrass, moray eels, octopuses, groupers, and—if you’re lucky—sea turtles. Both beginners and experienced divers will find options tailored to their skill level.
Marina Smir, just a few minutes from M'diq in the direction of Fnideq, is the region's boating hub. There, you can rent jet skis (starting at 300 MAD per half-hour), motorboats, and yachts for private trips along the coast. Boat trips to Cabo Negro or Tamuda Bay are especially popular at sunset.
In addition to water sports, M'diq offers a variety of dining options, lively markets, and a thriving nightlife scene. The resort is ideally located for exploring the region: 15 minutes from Cabo Negro, 30 minutes from Martil and Tetouan, and 2 hours from the Rif Mountains and Chefchaouen.
